Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! My name is Ms. Monique Pugh and I am elated to introduce myself to you Was your new principal. It is my sincere pleasure to be a King Wildcat! I look forward to an exciting year of learning and eagerly await the opportunity to meet you and your child!
The first day of school is Thursday, August 17, 2023. It is important that students are in school on Thursday. We will be rolling out the red carpet for our scholars and you will have an opportunity to take a first day photo if you'd like. There will also be information available about our Think Together after school program and parent volunteer sign ups.
Students are to arrive at school no earlier than 7:45 a.m. Our school gates open at 7:45 a.m. Student entry and dismissal gate locations are as follows:
Pre-K and Kindergarten: Office Gate (Main gate for 1st day only). Kindergarten school hours are 8:00 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.
1st Grade - 6th Grade: Main Gate
1st - 6th grade school hours are 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Students are dismissed at 1:15 p.m. on designated Wednesdays, please see our district calendar https://resources.finalsite.net/images/v1652168865/comptonk12caus/dxg74zc2lv4riypwivv5/2023-2024-instructional-calendar-tk-8th-grades-all-elementary-and-m.pdf. Copies of the calendar are available in our office.
First Day Procedures:
Kindergarten: Enter through the main gate where we will celebrate your child as they walk the red carpet! There will be a photo backdrop displayed where you may take a photo of your child if you'd like. Parents of kindergarten students are allowed to walk their child to class for the first and second day of school only. I am permitting this because I understand that for our youngest scholars the transition can be hard for parents and children alike. Beginning, Monday, August 21st all kinder parents will drop students off at their designated gate.
1st - 6th Grade:
Enter through the main gate where we will celebrate your child as they walk the red carpet! There will be a photo backdrop displayed where you may take a photo of your child if you'd like. Thank you for saying goodbye to your scholar at the gate or photo area. Parents are not permitted past the cafeteria area, and we appreciate your kind understanding.
Keep in mind that for the safety of our children and staff, King has a closed campus policy - meaning adults not fingerprinted and not cleared through our RAPTOR System are not permitted on school grounds.
Class Assignments:
Wondering who your child's teacher will be? Class assignments will be available tomorrow from 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Please call or stop by (if it's convenient) and we will let you know who your child's teacher is. A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2023-2024 school year. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level. Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities. Thank you for being positive with your child and helping him/her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff work hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher. The most important aspect is for you to maintain a positive disposition about school and your child will follow your lead.
Uniforms:
Our students are required to wear a uniform and closed toe shoes to school. Your student should wear his / her uniform with pride. The uniform means that you are part of the King Wildcat's Team and that feeling of membership matters!
Students in Kindergarten - 5th grade wear navy blue bottoms and a white, light blue or dark blue shirt with a collar. Our 6th graders wear black bottoms and a white, light blue or dark blue shirt with a collar. Thank you for adhering to our school uniform policy.
If you have any further questions or need clarification feel free to call our school office at 310-898-6430.
In service,
Ms. Monique Pugh M.A., Ed.
